Indian hockey players have potential to do well: Charlesworth

Chandigarh, January 3: Stressing the need for Indian hockey players to raise fitness levels and skills, technical consultant Ric Charlesworth on Thursday said they have the potential to perform better and deliver results.

"Indians have the potential to perform and deliver better if they attain quality in their fitness level and skills and teamwork," Charlesworth, who watching the ongoing Premier Hockey League here, said.

Describing PHL as a "competitive league", he said such an endeavour by the Indian Hockey Federation was helping players improve their performance and work hard on their weak points.

"PHL is a good opportunity for Indian hockey to learn," he said adding "the league is a combination of skills of Indian as well as foreign players."

Charlesworth said he was appointed director of the Centre of Excellency to be run by the sports department of the Union Territory of Chandigarh.

"I have received the communication in this regard... but I have not made up my mind yet where I will be based," he added.
