Kolkata, January 3 Mystery shrouds the death of a 44-year-old businessman in a city guest house today. Dipak Saha, a resident of Sodepur in North 24-Parganas, had been staying in room number 4 of the Anandalok Guest House at 15, Shyamacharan Dey Street since December 31. He had his friend and business partner Gulfam for company.

According to police, Saha was found lying unconscious inside the room. “Around noon, he was declared dead by a local doctor. His body has been sent for postmortem. A probe is on,” said Jawed Shamim, DC of Detective Department.

Saha is survived by his wife and two daughters. The family has reportedly told the police that he was a habitual drinker and would go on a binge every day.

In past, Saha had taken ill due to his drinking habit. His partner Gulfam said an inebriated Saha fell sick last night.

After he had lost consciousness, Gulfam called in a local doctor.

But it is still not clear why the two were staying in the guesthouse.

Suspecting foul play, the police have detained Gulfam. But it was learnt that Saha’s family had told police that he was an old acquaintance of the family and could have no role to play.

“A case of unnatural death has been registered and the body has been sent for post-mortem,” said Shamim.
