Addressing the gathering, Bhattacharjee said: “The government’s duty is to promote this unique culture by aiding it with various instruments like halls, laboratories.”
Festival secretary Samir Sen sought the chief minister’s help to solve various infrastructure-related problems faced by theatre groups in the city. He also blamed the cinema for the deteriorating state of theatre. He urged the audience to protect this unique form of art.
Bhattacharjee suggested the authorities to build dormitories for artistes coming from far-flung areas and provide help to the poor artistes.
