State Home Secretary Prasad Ranjan Ray said on Friday steps are being taken to offer the ‘100-day per year per household’ employment scheme in the region, under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, 2005.
“The scheme has been implemented in the area due to the series of violent incidents there. The area is now returning to normalcy. The scheme will help the poor get work. The issuance of employment cards is likely to be accomplished in a month’s time,” Ray added.
Ever since violence broke out in the region in January last year, development activities have taken a backseat. Ray said most people who have been living in relief camps have returned home. “Some have not returned and are living with their relatives elsewhere. At present, the camps are empty,” Ray said.
