Six die in road accidents across state

Kolkata, January 6 Road accidents all over the state claimed six lives in the last 24 hours. Four accidents — two reported in the city — have left around seven persons severely injured.

In the city, a motorcyclist — Kajal Mandal of Beleghata — died after his two-wheeler collided with a lorry at the CR Avenue and Girish Park crossing. The incident took last night. The driver and the helper of the lorry are absconding. The police have impounded the lorry.

Another mishap took place on the Nivedita bridge in the northern fringe of the city. Five persons were injured in the collision between a state bus and a car. Two major accidents took place on Kalyani-Barrackpore Expressway. Two trucks collided on the Expressway near the Iswargupta bridge around 12.30 am today. Two truck drivers died and a helper was injured. Mitai Nag (35), one of the drivers, was a resident of Seoraphuli.

Three people died at Kapamore of the Expressway in the Bijpur police station area. Sources said that the accident took place around 6 am today. Two lorries collided head on. Rameshwaram, the helper, was rushed to Kalyani Hospital. Police said that the accidents on the Expressway were due to the dense fog. The bodies of the dead have been sent for post-mortem.
