“Four out of the ten students have been allowed to appear in the written semester examination,” said N R Banerjee, Vice-Chancellor of the BESU.
Following the announcement, students agreed to appear for the examination, which is scheduled for Friday.
Earlier in the day, at an academic council meeting chaired by the Vice-Chancellor, it was decided to form a committee under Prof Nirmalesh Chatterjee, to look into the grievances of the students and resolve the present deadlock.
Prof Chatterjee later interacted with the faculty members. The committee finally suggested that four out of the ten students could be considered to appear in the examination.
Expressing happiness over the decision taken by the university authorities, Shyamasis Das, the students’ representative, said, “It is good that the university has understood our point of view.”
Since January 2, the university has been trying to convince the agitating students to appear in the semester examination. The University had debarred ten students from appearing in the examination as they failed to secure the required minimum 75 per cent attendance. The students have also refused to sign the undertaking for fulfilling the required attendance during the next semester.
The university, for the moment, has postponed any action on the agitating students.
