Union Steel, Chemical and Fertiliser Minister Ram Vilas Paswan said here on Friday that there were untoward incidents in Nandigram when the state government had tried to acquire 250 sq km or 62,500 acre of land, the stipulated amount required for setting up a PCPIR.
“If the government needs to compromise with its parameters to avoid such incidents, that has to be done,” Paswan said. West Bengal has yet to submit a complete project report on the PCPIR to the Centre, the minister said.
State Commerce and Industry Secretary Sabyasachi Sen said after the state government had submitted its report, the fertilizer ministry sought clarifications and corrections twice, which the government has already sent. The proposal, which is still lying with the chemical and fertiliser ministry, needs the clearance of at least 13 concerned departments, he said.
Paswan said so far, of the five states that have submitted proposals for the PCPIR, only Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh have given complete project reports. Orissa, West Bengal and Karnataka are yet to submit these reports.
