Kolkata, February 8 A Division Bench of Chief Justice S S Nijjar and Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose today directed Left Front chairman Biman Bose to file an affidavit in response to a petition filed by the BJP state secretary Rahul Sinha.

Sinha had filed a petition saying that the remarks passed by Bose, criticising the Calcutta High Court’s judgment in the Nandigram police firing case and the judiciary, should be considered as contempt of court.

The court had declared that the firing was unconstitutional. Appearing on behalf of Bose, advocate Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya said his client had not received a copy of the petition yet. However later in the day, he confirmed that Bose had received a copy of the plea. The bench then asked Bose to file an affidavit.

Last Friday, the same bench which was hearing a petition filed by the Bar Association of Calcutta High Court had directed Bose to file an affidavit on his alleged remarks, tantamount to contempt of court.

Both petitions will be heard by the bench eight weeks after February 1.
