As many as 454 stationary and 93 mobile booths, manned by 2100 personnel drawn from the departments of Health, Education, Social Welfare and Police, were set up at locations convenient for people.
The director health and family welfare, Dr Manjit Singh Bains, district family welfare officer, Dr Kavita Talwar, district immunisation officer, Dr G Diwan and other Health department officers visited immunisation booths in different parts of the city and immunised a few children. Independent monitors deputed by the World Health Organisation also inspected booth activities.
Nongovernmental organisations, religious leaders and municipal councillors actively participated in motivating and making parents bring their children to the booths for the polio vaccine drops.
Pulse Polio Teams will now conduct house-to-house polio immunisation activity on February 11 and 12 to immunise children left over in the age group of 0-5 years, in order to achieve the goal of a polio-free city. UT Home Secretary Krishna Mohan has urged all citizens to cooperate with the pulse polio teams during house-to-house polio immunisation.
He also thanked various NGOs, social and religious leaders and the staff of UT Administration and other institutions for their active participation in today’s campaign.
