Kolkata, February 14 Two tyre shops were gutted and a few were partially damaged in a fire that broke out on Thursday evening at Smith Lane under Taltala police station. Ten fire tenders were deployed to bring the fire under control that worsened after two LPG cylinders exploded. “No one was injured,” said Shibananda Biswas, ASP, Taltala police station.
As the fire broke out in a highly congested lane, the fire brigade experienced difficulties in reaching the spot, said Amalendu Banerjee, divisional fire officer (north). The presence of chemicals at the shop acted as a catalyst, officials said. An investigation to ascertain if the shops followed all fire safety norms will be conducted.
