Rai’s family, which lives in Notunpally at Sonarpur, are disappointed over not getting any information or assistance from the government’s side to track the family’s lone earner.
“Neither the government nor the shipping ministry has contacted our family, so we are just keeping touch with his employers for any details,” said Rai’s cousin Pinaki.
Rai, who is in his early forties, had visited his family during Durga Puja last year. He has been serving in the ship for the last eight years.
On the afternoon of February 20, the family received a call from S Biswas, director of Mumbai- based Pelican Marine Pvt Ltd, saying that the ship in which Rai was working remained untraceable since last Monday. Though Rai was stationed at Mumbai, for months he would be at sea.
He did his schooling from Harinavi Uccha Vidyalaya and graduated from Surendranath College. After his graduation, Kishore took training in catering and joined the shipping industry.
