The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) now believes that Agarwal’s knowledge about a sex racket being run by his friend Rajat Sabarwal could have led to his murder.
Initially, the CID suspected monetary irregularities behind the murder since the victim was involved in share business.
“We are not ruling out the link of his murder with his share business, about which his parents apparently did not have any idea. But the new angle is stronger,” said a senior investigating officer.
It was learnt that one of Manish’s uncles was also involved in the sex racket. Police are currently investigating his uncle’s role too.
Agarwal, who was doing his articleship in a firm in south Kolkata had gone missing on February 21 after he left his office. “Manish Agarwal was not murdered on the day he went missing. Post-mortem report indicates that he was murdered at least two days after he went missing”, said DIG, CID, Neeraj Nayan Pandey.
