The accused was arrested for drowning her two daughters — four-years-old Sia and seven-month-old Ria — in a reservoir in Belur Math last Tuesday.
Seema’s husband Kanchan, however, told police that she had never been humiliated for bearing daughters. Even Seema’s mother Archana Soi denied Seema’s allegations.
“They were a happy couple as far as I knew. Seema never told me that her in-laws or her husband tortured or mentally harassed her,” she said.
At a loss, Bally police sent a team to Burdwan to find out what had actually happened. “We are not sure whether she was indeed mentally tortured,” said a senior police officer.
“Though there is discrepancy in her statement, we cannot ignore the what she had said on the first day. We are looking into the matter seriously,” said Howrah SP Neeraj Kumar Singh.
When asked if Seema will be sent for a narco analysis test, Singh said: “It’s too early to decide. Let us complete our investigation first. At present, we are not thinking of taking the help of a psychiatrist or a brain mapping.”
