The final of Peerless Smart Cricket Championship was inaugurated by the chief guest Mr Devang Gandhi, former player of Team India and Actor Jishu Sengupta at 9.30 am at Calcutta Cricket Coaching Centre playground. Peerless Smart Boomer Team is mentored by Mr Jayanta Roy, Director (Corporate Planning & Strategy), and PGFI. Peerless Smart Warrior team is mentored by Tarun Maiti, Regional Director,Peerless Hotels Ltd. Arindam Pal and Sudip Banerjee are the captains of Peerless Smart Boomer and Smart Warrior teams respectively.
The series, comprising 12 matches, was played during the year. Both the teams have won six matches each of the series. The final of the series took place at the backdrop of lush greenery at the sprawling ground of the C4.
Commenting on the initiative, Jayanta Roy, director (Corporate Planning & Strategy), PGFI, said: “Peerless Smart Cricket is an initiative on our behalf to instill the core corporate philosophy of togetherness and team spirit in our employees. We have launched the Peerless Smart Cricket Championship 2007-08 last year since Cricket epitomizes team spirit. Peerless has been at the forefront of sports as a patron for long and we will make this initiative an annual affair.”
Nabin Damani scored 63 runs was adjudged Man of the Match. Arup Banerjee of Smart Boomer bagged trophy in the category of Highest Wicket Taker.
