India gifts horses to Bangladesh

Kolkata, March 19 The Indo-Bangla border at Petrapol was witness to a rare mission on Wednesday. Arzoo and Valiant gallantly trotted into the Bangladesh territory along with their female companions. The majestic equines are two of the six horses gifted to Bangladesh by India.

On February 25, in a high level meeting between the Army Chiefs of the two nations, it was decided that India will gift Bangladesh six fine groomed horses. The decision, a friendly gesture from the Indian Army, has come following a request by their Bangladeshi counterparts.

“This is the first time that horses were gifted in this way,” said Colonel Mihir Bhattacharya, the representative from the Indian Army. The formal ceremony was held at the Indo-Bangla border at Benapol in Bangladesh.

The horses were taken to Kolkata from Delhi on Tuesday, after which they were brought to Petrapol to be taken to Bangladesh. “The friendship between the two nations will only grow. The gesture will go a long way in cementing our deep bonds,” said Major Nurul Amin.

The Bangladesh military does not have adequate number of fine-bred horses. The move is for breeding purposes.
