Teacher, clerk held for forging marksheets

Kolkata, March 26 The teacher-in-charge of a North Kolkata higher secondary school has been arrested for allegedly forging Madhyamik marksheets of unsuccessful candidates in 2007, enabling them to gain admission to Class XI of the same school.

Somnath Das (52) and clerk Digvijay Puri (45) of Vitthalnath Vidyala on 26 PK Tagore Street were arrested for allegedly falsifying the marksheets of six students.

According to Vineet Goyal, DC (headquarters), no action has been taken against the students or their parents in case they are minors. “The police moved into action following a case filed by an ex-president of the school board. The state secondary school board authorities have informed the complainants that the marksheets have indeed been forged.” The case came to the police on March 16 and there was a court order to investigate the forgery. “The candidates in question have submitted their marksheets to Higher Secondary Board for registration as well,” Goyal added.

The accused have been remanded in judicial custody till April 8.
