Kolkata, March 27 A Division Bench of Calcutta High Court today upheld the death sentence that was awarded to one Haru Ghosh by a Nadia fast track court in connection with a 2005 twin murder case.

The Bench comprising Justice Girish Chandra Gupta and Justice KK Prasad, while upholding the verdict of the fast trace court stated: “If a person commits a crime while out on bail, then capital punishment should be awarded under the CrPC.”

Ghosh was found guilty of murdering Anima Pramanik, a 30-year-old housewife, and her 12-year-old son Subhankar in May 2005 while he was on a bail in connection with another murder case.

In April 2002, Ghosh was awarded life imprisonment by a Nadia court in connection with a murder case that took place in Nabadip in 2000.

He later appealed to the High Court against the verdict and was granted bail. While he was on bail he committed the twin murders.
