IPS association unhappy with new pay proposals

Kolkata, April 02 Following the Central IPS Association protest against the “unfair recommendations” of the Sixth Pay Commission, the West Bengal IPS Association has also come out against the recommendations. At a meeting held on Wednesday, the association demanded that eligible IPS officers be allowed for the posts of Deputy Inspector General in the Central Paramilitary Forces as well as at other levels.

“The Commission has suggested that CPF DIG post be filled only by CPF officers, which rules out deputation of IPS officers at the DIG level. Also, existence of the CPF DIG post can not justify the continuance of the said post with the IPS,” said members of the association.

“The existing S-26 pay scale for DIG-rank officers (Rs 16,000 to Rs 20,000) has been proposed to be included in the new, inferior PB-3 pay band (Rs 15,600 to Rs 39,100), while the old pay band of S-28 (14,300 to Rs 22,400) has been included in the superior PB-4 pay band (Rs 39,200 to Rs 67,000),” the association said.

On the lines of the Central IPS Association, the state body has demanded that the pay scales of IPS and IAS recruits be brought on parity. The Pay Commission had recommended that the IAS officers be given a higher pay as they were posted in remote areas under trying circumstances. “In addition, IPS officers work amid social and communal tension, militancy, terrorism, extremism and various other threats to their lives,” the state association said.

The state body has also asked for a “Police Service Pay” along the lines of proposed Military Service Pay --- recommended for officers in the Armed Forces--- to be paid to all ranks of police and paramilitary forces.
