26 Naxals held with commander in Nadia, Bankura

Kolkata, April 4 Barely 48 hours before Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee is to visit the Naxal-hit Purulia, 14 Naxals were arrested today in Nadia and 12 more in Bankura. Among them was Alok Debnath, a well-known Naxal commander, and a woman.

From the group in Nadia, the police recovered two rifles, which they said were stolen from the force. Besides, a Sten-gun, a .315 rifle, two revolvers and 100 rounds were found as well. In Bankura, around 200 detonators were seized from the Naxals.

“Of those arrested in Nadia, seven were members of the squad. The rest were arrested for sheltering them,” said Raj Kanojia, Inspector General (law and order).

The police is investigating the matter in coordination with the adjoining states.

The Naxals have been active in parts of Nadia and Murshidabad, he added.
