Kolkata, April 8 The state government has decided to drop inquiry against Nazrul Islam, the IPS officer against whom a disproportionate assets complaint was filed.

This was stated by the government counsel during a hearing at the Calcutta High Court on Tuesday.

In 2006, the state vigilance commission had initiated an inquiry on receipt of a complaint of disproportionate assets against the IPS Officer.

Islam, now IG (EB), had filed a petition against it stating that the state vigilance commission is not empowered to conduct an inquiry against an IPS Officer.

Following this the High Court directed the State Home Secretary to conduct the inquiry in the presence of the vigilance commission.

In 2008, Islam again filed a petition alleging that the State Home Department did not start the inquiry, violating the court order.

Today, counsel of the state informed the Bench that PS Roy, Former Home Secretary, had directed the department on March 7, 2008 to drop the inquiry against him.

Justice SP Talukdar will hear the compensation plea of Islam on April 16 as he alleged mental harassment.
