Kolkata, April 16 Ignoring the public ire against the bandh called by the Trinamool Congress and the SUCI on April 21 on the issue of price hike, the party chief Mamata Banerjee today reiterated her call for the bandh saying that their aim was to give a jolt to the government.

At the end of a padayatra from Mominpur Crossing in south Kolkata to Kidderpore in protest against the price hike and the introduction of water tax in Kolkata, Mamata said: “Prices are sky-rocketing but the government is totally indifferent. We are going to hold padayatras and rallies at Shyambazaar on April 18 and at Tollygunge on April 19. We will go in for similar padayatras all over the state. We have also called the bandh on these issues and I request you to make it a success.”

Criticising the CPM for staging protest rallies in Delhi and other places against price hike, she said,” They are a part of the government at the Centre and they have their government here. Still they cannot do anything. It’s all drama,” the Trinamool leader said. The bandh will cause inconvenience to thousands of college students whose examinations are beginning next week.
