Petrol pump owner steals credit card details, arrested

Kolkata, April 18 In connection with a credit card fraud case, the police have arrested one person for stealing credit card details and using them for purchasing articles.

Benugopal Jhunjhunwala, owner of a petrol pump in Beliaghata, was apprehended from his AJC Bose Road residence following a complaint lodged by one P K Chatterjee whose credit card details Jhunjhunwala had stolen.

On December 26, 2007, Chatterjee had visited Jhunjhunwala’s petrol pump to refuel his vehicle and had used his credit card to pay the bill. A few days later, when he visited his bank, Chatterjee found that his credit card reflected an expense of Rs 43,424 that he couldn’t recall to have spent. Chatterjee registered a complaint with the bank.

Jhunjhunwala had copied Chatterjee’s credit card details and used them to purchase four air tickets, said Jawed Shamim, DC (DD). He has been remanded in police custody for seven days, he added.
