Jawed Shamim, DC (DD) said no result has come till now from the police teams searching for Das’s background including his movements in the recent past and his relatives.
While Das is reported toi be from Tripura, sources at the Ashram claim he was a resident of West Bengal. “We are trying hard, but we have little to move further. We hope to get some leads very soon,” said Shamim.
There are speculations that some internal groups of the ashram are behind the murders.
While the police teams of Tripura, Jammu and Kashmir and Assam are searching for evidence, the Kolkata teams have been sent to these states, where the ashram has branches.
According to sources, Das used to visit these branches frequently after being expelled from the ashram few years ago.
Das had also maintained close contacts with “Gurubhais” of these branches.
Meanwhile, Anandakamal Brahmachari, the sanyasi who was critically injured during Das’s attack while trying to protect Guruma, is said to be better but he is not yet in a condition to give his statement to the police.
The police are also awaiting the forensic test results of the items seized from the site of murder, including a sword used by Das and a hammer, said to have been used to kill the attacker.
Das’ post-mortem report had mentioned that he died due to the injuries on his head caused by a heavy object.
At the Ashram premises in Kolkata, the devotees continued to come in considerable number to pay their homage to the Guruma’s body, which has been kept in a coffin to avoid rapid decomposition.
