“Preliminary investigations have revealed that the racket had links other metros,” said Jawed Shamim, deputy commissioner of police detective department.
“Kolkata Knight Riders were the favourites of the bookies. We are preparing teams who will be sent to other cities to track other links. Nearly a crore changed hands yesterday. Since IPL is more popular than normal cricket, it generated a huge response from the betters,” said an officer of the detective department. The sleuths are also examining links of the racket with some Gulf countries.
The sleuths said Adarsh and Vishnu were earlier arrested for running a cricket-betting racket. The group maintained constant touch with people betting from different parts of the country. The bets were placed over phone and also online. The voice of the caller was recorded as proof and the deal etched on the settlement slips.
Sleuths have also found names and contact numbers of well-placed people who were also involved.
Sources say that there were bets on the performance of individual cricketers and even who would hit a six and who would be bowled out.
