kolkata, April 23 A 10-feet crocodile, which lost its way and entered a pond in a village in the Sunderbans last night, was captured on Wednesday morning by forest department personnel. Officials of the forest department said that owner of the pond Nurul Islam grew doubtful when he noticed some violent movement under water. Realising that it was a mighty crocodile, he alerted other villagers who informed the forest department.

There was considerable tension at the Sandeshkhali village as the residents stayed up the whole night fearing the giant reptile might break into their homes.

The crocodile was captured early this morning with the help of nets and was taken to the forest department’s range office in Sajnekhali. The animal will be released either into the sea or a river. The forest officials said that the crocodile had most probably entered from the Matla river nearby.
