kolkata, April 24 The state government has denied Gorkha Janamukti Morcha (GJM) to hold a rally at Bagha Jatin Park in Siliguri on April 27. "Tension is prevailing in Siliguri and so we have refused them permission to hold the rally," state Home Secretary Ashoke Mohan Chakrabarty told mediapersons today.

The GJM was, however, given permission to hold their proposed May 7 rally at Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata. “The GJM had asked permission to hold rally on May 7. Since an IPL match will be played on that day we have told them to organise it on May 8,” said Raj Kanojia, IG (Law and order).

This comes a day after a delegation of top GJM leaders met state chief secretary Amit Kiran Deb to discuss their demands. After the meeting, GJM leader Roshan Giri had said that the Morcha would hold the rally in Siliguri on April 27. He had also expressed his disappointment for not getting permission to hold rally in Siliguri.
