kolkata, April 26 The widening rift between the CPM and its Left Front partner Forward Bloc(FB) was exposed once again when cadres of both the parties clashed over what appears to be a case of domestic violence in the Jorasanko area of the city on Saturday.

Former CPM councillor of Ward No 41 Dr Umesh Chowdhury registered a complaint with the police that the Forward Bloc activists led by one Mukhtar Ali ransacked his chambers at 13A, Madanmohan Burman Street at 11 am, besides assaulting him and his wife Rita, the present councillor from the same ward. Chowdhury said that Ali and the FB activists also stole a laptop and a mobile phone from his chamber. On the other hand, Ali has also registered a police complaint, which alleges that the CPM cadres ransacked his office at Chowdhury’s behest.

Following these complaints, the police arrested four persons, two each from both the parties. DC (Central) Ajay Ranade said the trouble started after Ali’s sister-in-law lodged a case of domestic violence against her husband Raj. Raj, incidentally, happens to be related to Chowdhury. Ali has also claimed in his complaint that he received threatening calls from Chowdhury asking him to convince his sister-in-law to withdraw the complaint against Raj.
