No rain in the next 24 hrs: Met dept

Kolkata, May 2 If you are expecting sudden evening showers to give you some respite from the scorching heat then you may have to wait a little longer as the Meteorological department is not expecting rain in the next 24 hours.

According to the Met department, Nargis, the severe cyclonic storm over east central Bay of Bengal continues to move eastwards. It is likely to move further in a east-north-easterly direction and cross the Myanmar coast.

“Though we are not expecting rainfall in the next 24 hours, the conditions are becoming favourable for rain in Kolkata and adjoining areas. The temperature will remain around 36 degree Celsius for the next two days,” said GC Debnath, director, Meteorological department.

The temperature remained around 37 degree Celsius on Friday with the relative humidity recorded at 57 per cent. Weather will be mainly dry over the Gangetic West Bengal on Saturday with some isolated places receiving rainfall but rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at a few places in Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri and Cooch Behar of sub-Himalayan West Bengal; at isolated places of the Malda districts, (North and South) Dinajpur of sub-Himalayan West Bengal. Kolkata is likely to see a clear sky on Saturday with the maximum temperature hovering around 38 degree Celsius, two degrees above normal, and a minimum temperature of 28 degree Celsius.

A heat wave-like situation still prevails in Burdwan, with Asansol and Durgapur being the worst hit.
