Missing boy found dead

Kolkata, May 5 The body of 20-year-old Souvik Dutta, who went missing on Sunday night, was found lying in a pool of blood near his Soumya Chanditala residence on Monday morning.

He had received a gunshot wound in his head and there were multiple injuries on his body.

“Souvik had dinner with us and left home around 10.30 pm for a walk. Going for a walk after dinner was a part of his daily routine,” said his father Kalipada Dutta who owns a small grocery shop in Icchapore. Dutta was about to approach the local police station when the news of his son’s death reached him.

Souvik, a former student of Kedarnath High School in Satragachi, was allegedly involved with a certain anti-social elements.

“Souvik might have been killed in retaliation of the murder of a local goon, Sujit Thakur, who was killed yesterday. Souvik might have been involved in his murder. We are yet to confirm if Thakur’s men killed Souvik,” said police.

“The body has been sent for postmortem. We are trying to ascertain the motive behind the murder,” said Howrah SP Neeraj Kumar Singh.
