Kolkata, May 10 The Trinamool Congress is using the Bhumi Ucched Pratirodh Committee (BUPC) as a “shield” in Nandigram, giving advantage to the CPM in Sunday’s panchayat elections in the troubled area, said Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind leader Siddiqullah Chowdhury on Saturday.

He said, “Those who are using the BUPC as a shield, especially the Trinamool Congress, lack foresight.” Chowdhury, the founder of the

People’s Democratic Council of India (PDCI) was addressing mediapersons in Kolkata.

Describing the situation in Nandigram as “complex”, he said the PDCI had initially thought of entering into seat adjustments with the Trinamool Congress for panchayat polls in the area, but later opted out “with an eye for the future”.

“But the CPM being an organised party is taking advantage of the situation,” Chowdhury said.
