Kolkata, May 14 Even as the CPM cadres praised the Border Security Force in Basanti today, its main opponent in the area, the Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) criticised the Central force for remaining a mere spectator when its supporters were being shot at.

As violence erupted between the two parties last night and continued today on the polling day, the CMP supporters and leaders were making a beeline for the nearest BSF camp.

At booth number 30 in Dhuri village in Basanti, where RSP and CPM supporters clashed with each other, CPM cadres were seen taking shelter behind the patrolling BSF personnel.

“The police and the BSF effectively controlled the situation when armed goons of the RSP were attacking our supporters and their relatives,” said Kanti Ganguly, CPM leader and Sunderbans Development minister.

“The BSF forces are doing a good job,” said Ain Ali Khan, local committee member of CPM. “They saved our lives by coming in time and thwarting the RSP supporters, who were attacking us,” he added.
