Factory official killed, cops blame union

Kolkata, May 15 A personnel officer of Lumtek Engineering Private Ltd, Apurba Roychoudhury, was killed by workers of the Sangrami Mazdoor Union, a Naxalite union, at Kharda in North 24 Parganas today. The police have detained 15 people in this connection.

“Workers had arranged for a meeting in front of gate no 2 of the factory. Some miscreants attacked the assembled workers and escaped from the spot. Workers asked the personnel officer to call the police, but he refused which led to a heated argument between workers and Roychoudhury. In the meantime, a worker picked up a wooden rod and hit Roychoudhury on the head. The officer died on his way to hospital,” said Sukumar Gorui, officer-in-charge, Kharda police
