CBDT: Officer arrested in Kolkata not an I-T dept employee

New Delhi, May 16 The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) clarified on Friday that the officer arrested in Kolkata earlier this week on charges of graft was not an employee of the Income Tax department. The CBI had arrested an Accountant Member of Income Tax, an officer equivalent to the rank of Additional Secretary, from Kolkata for allegedly receiving a bribe of Rs 30 lakh to extend undue favours to certain companies. The official, Jugal Kishore, along with an employee of a private concern, S K Tulsyan & Company, Nishant Jain, and proprietor of Mayank Securities S C Barjatiya were arrested on Tuesday night during a raid conducted at the official’s residence in Nizam Palace after CBI sleuths in Kolkata received information about the alleged illegal deal, the investigating agency had said.
