Kolkata, May 21 The Kolkata police arrested two youths on charges of abducting a trader’s son from a godown on Brabourne Road and rescued the victim, on early Wednesday morning.

The police said Vivek Sharma (30), who works at a factory near Tripalpatti, was on his way to the Howrah railway station, when Vivek Pandey and Sanu Jha had allegedly kidnapped him near the station around 8.30 pm on Tuesday.

Later, his father Ghanashyam Sharma got a call from Pandey who demanded a ransom of Rs 50,000 for his son’s release. The offenders threatened him not to inform the police. Ganashyam, however, lodged a complaint with the Burrabazar police station. Police later came to know that the youth was taken to Uttarpara and then to a godown in Burrabazar. Police raided the godown and arrested both the kidnappers. Police suspect that a business rivalry might have led to kidnapping.
