The People’s Democratic Conference of India (PDCI) chief, Siddiqullah Chowdhury, met the Governor on Friday and submitted a memorandum that condemned the death of several people during the 2008 panchayat elections.

“We want the Governor to intervene and stop this kind of violence. We told him that he should personally visit the affected families to ensure them moral support,” said Chowdhury.

“The Governor, however, said he could not give us too much assurance,” the PDCI chief added. His party has alleged that in many cases terror was sponsored by the state and hence instances of violence were often overlooked by the police.
