Last year, over a dozen students, along with impostor candidates from other states, were arrested by the Detective Department of the Kolkata police. Following which, the JEE board took certain security measures this year.
The board, this time, circulated CDs containing details of the candidates who were scheduled to appear in the examination to all the exam centres.
Since the photograph of the candidate appearing in the exam did not match, the officials tried to match the records of the candidate. On inquiry the candidate was identified as Shyam Kumar, a resident of Nalanda in Bihar, who was appearing for Mukesh Prasad, a resident of Durgapur.
Among the new security measures adopted this year, the question papers were kept at the nearest police station. The question papers were carried to the examination centres this morning, said the chairman of the board, Siddhartha Dutta.
“We are planning to bring out the results by June 15 as per the instructions of the Supreme Court. We have appointed 250 examiners who will check the subjective part of the answer scripts at the office of the commission,” said Dutta.
Around, 76,450 candidates were scheduled to appear at 193 centres (190 in West Bengal and three in Tripura) in the examination held today. According to board officials the attendance was thin at certain centres in Kolkata.
