Kolkata, May 28 The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation will spend $100 million for setting up a care centre for AIDS patients at Asansol in Burdwan district.

“We have submitted a proposal to the foundation and we are expecting a word from them soon. The foundation will spend about $100 million for the project,” said Ravi Sharma, president of Global AIDS Awareness Organisation (GAAO) which is setting up the care centre.

The centre, which will initially take care of 100 patients, will provide them all medical attention, besides facilities like yoga and entertainment. The work for the project is expected to begin in the next six months.

Sharma said that GAAO, an affiliate of the International AIDS Society, would also set up a similar care centre in Jalandhar.
