The film is based on Rin Pittran Da, a novel penned by Dr Dalip Kaur Tiwana, a well-known and a decorated Punjabi novelist, who is also the president of the Punjabi Sahitya Akademy. Dr Tiwana, who was also present at the premier, said, “Latta’s father has been my teacher and later my colleague also and when Latta expressed his desire to make a film on my novel I accepted the offer but then my creative input into this film ends at this only. The very fact that the film has different name than the novel shows that there are some deviations from the actual novel.”
About her novel, Dr Tiwana whose genre is primarily women and the feudal structure of Punjab, says, “As per Indian philosophy, there are three kinds of debts or rins — that of our Guru, mother and that of our forefathers. While we all know why do we owe a debt to our mother and Guru, in my this novel I have tried to unravel the debt that we owe to forefathers. This novel is also about a search of person who is trying to figure out the question which we all want to know, Who am I?”
Hardeep Singh Chadda, managing director, AB Grains Spirits, whose company is promoting this film said, “While we have no plans to open a studio or a production house, but then through promotion of a meaningful and family-oriented films like this, our corporate house is trying to give back to the society from which we have earned so much. When Latta came to us with this film, we readily picked it up for promotion as we have the infrastructure i.e multiplexes, to show such films and many more such promotions are in planning stage.”
Talking about the film and especially the choice of the subject, Latta added, “This novel is very contemporary and moreover this subject is kind of universal. While this novel has been written in Punjabi yet Gujaraitis, Marathis every one will connect with this film and this is what our basic aim is.” About corporate backing, Latta remarked, “While the budget of this film is not too big, yet we need big houses to promote such film for it is only the corporate houses that can spend this kind of money.”
The film stars well known singer-turned actor Malkita Singh, Giordan Rana, Yograj Singh, Avtar Gill, Sarbjit Mangat, Jaswant Daman, Arpita Sanghera, Sandeep Malhi and Jaswinder Bhalla.
