“The in-house journal has been brought out to serve two basic purposes. One, to highlight various news and features of Kolkata police to its personnel and second, to inform Kolkata’s citizens about our organisation in a brief and pertinent manner,” Gautam Mohan Chakrabarti, commissioner of Kolkata police who launched the first issue today at Lal Bazaar, said.
There are four members on the editorial board. While the chairman is K Hari Rajan, additional commissioner (III), the editor is Sudhir Mishra, Joint Commissioner. The other two members are Javed Shamim, deputy commissioner, detective department, and Manab Bandyopadhyay, PRO, Kolkata Police.
The four-page newsletter contains features like the “unit of the month”, in which the achievements of a particular section of the force will be highlighted. This time the traffic section—its functions, responsibilities, and how people can take its help—has been outlined. The newsletter has also highlighted various achievements and incidents of crime that had been reported from various areas of the city. It also contains some important phone numbers of the city.
“These will be our regular features. It will be mainly our own officers who will write the copies. But if needed we may publish the write-ups by outsiders. Now it is being published in English but later on a Bengali version may also be published,” Mishra told The Indian Express.
He also said that apart from distributing it among personnel, it will be sent to all newspapers and the electronic media.
