Charges to be framed against Patan rape accused on June 16

Ahmedabad, May 30 June 16 has been fixed as the date for framing of charges against the accused in the Patan PTC gangrape case. On Thursday, for the first time, the case came up for hearing before the new fastrack judge S C Srivastava.

Also, District Prosecutor Shailesh Thakkar handed over the case papers to Special Public Prosecutor Naina Bhatt, who has been given the case on the victim's request.

The Patan PTC gangrape incident had shocked the entire nation on February 4, when the girl blew the lid off one of the worst-ever scandals in educational institutions in the state. The Dalit girl had alleged that six of her teachers at the PTC had allegedly sexually abused her over a period of six months. The teachers have been charged with an offence of rape and unlawful compulsory labour.

The documentary evidence in the case, running into 55 pages and containing the complaint made by the girl and FSL reports has already been filed on May 13.
