At Calcutta University, admissions begin today

Kolkata, June 1 The admission procedure for undergraduate courses in Calcutta University will start from June 2. The University this year expects more number of students taking admission in the different colleges affiliated to it. The Indian Express brings out a checklist of courses offered and cut off marks for admission in the top colleges of the city.

* St Xavier’s College: The forms will be available online.
The sought after streams are Bcom, maths honours, statistics honours, English honours.
Cut off: 60 per cent aggregate with minimum 45 per cent in individual subjects.
Entrance test: For admission in mass communication and video production and computer sciences.

* Presidency College: Forms will be available online as well as from college campus.
The most sought after streams are English, economics, and geology.
Cut off: Varies from one department to another. Most departments’ demand for 60 per cent cut off in arts and 70 per cent in science subjects.
Entrance test will be taken in all the streams.

* Bethune College: Forms will be available online and also from college campus.
Cut off: Varies from department to department. A higher cut off has been set for students of CBSE and ICSE by the English and political science departments.
Entrance test will be taken only for English honours.

* Lady Braburne College: The sought after subjects are English, microbiology, sociology.
Cut off: The highest cut off is 75 per cent for English, 70 per cent for sociology and 50 per cent for other arts subjects.
For science courses, 75 per cent for microbiology, 70 per cent for chemistry and maths and 65 per cent for physics and geography.
