New Delhi, June 6 Students aspiring to learn East Asian languages like Japanese, Chinese or Korean will now get an opportunity to do so at the Delhi University. DU has introduced a two-year full-time Masters programme under the Department of East Asian Studies. This course will help integrate the cultural, social, economic, political and historical studies of East Asian countries, feels the department.

“This course is being introduced due to the improving relations between India and East Asian countries. Earlier we found that Indian companies visiting these countries and vice versa would face communication problems. With the introduction of these new courses we hope to dismiss the language barrier,” says Madhu Bhalla, the Head of the department.

The programme will also offer M Phil/Ph D in East Asian Studies for students who want to pursue research. The centre has tied up with National Cheng University, CH’I University, Taipei University, China NorthEast Normal University and many others for exchange programmes.

The eligibility criteria for admission to this course is 50 per cent marks in graduation from any discipline and an admission test. Application forms are available from June 2 to July 4.
