Neighbours said that Dilip would come home inebriated every night and beat up his wife. The ill treatment meted out to his mother might have led the son to commit the offence, the police said. While Swapan has been arrested, his mother has been absconding since the incident. In another incident in Golurhat village, a petty businessman strangulated his wife. The police said that Swapan Bag was an alcoholic. Of late, his business was not running well and he regularly quarreled with his wife, Toton Bag, over financial issues. Locals said that Toton always asked for money from her husband. “During one such quarrel, he probably lost his control and killed his wife,” said a police official. Swapan Bag has been arrested.
