Police clueless on minor’s ‘rape’

Kolkata, June 15 The police are still groping in the dark about the five-year-old girl who was found inside an abandoned building in Calcutta National Medical College Hospital, Chittoranjan, with her hands and legs tied.

The police suspect she was kidnapped and sexually assaulted. Though her mother has lodged a complaint with the police alleging that her daughter was raped, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Eastern Suburban Division) Parthosarathi Ghosh said the police were yet to confirm it. He said: “Her body bore injury marks. We are investigating the incident. We will speak to her to get the description of the culprit.”

Father of the girl, Muhammed Sallam, who works with a transport firm, said: “My family and I are sure that someone assaulted her sexually. I do not know why there is so much delay in nabbing the culprit.”

The girl, a kindergarten student of an NGO (SCIR)-run school in Tiljala, had gone missing on Friday evening. Later, the girl’s father lodged a missing complaint with the police .
