Two murder witnesses hacked to death on NH 34 in Berhampore

Kolkata, June 18 Two witnesses in a murder case were hacked to death by three unknown persons on NH 34 at Daspara, Behrampore, around 12.45 pm on Wednesday.

According to the police, Moniruddin Sheikh (38) and Golap Sheikh (40) were on their way to the Jangipara court in a private bus to meet a lawyer. As the bus reached Daspara, the assailants got onto it and dragged Moniruddin and Golap to the road. As other passengers watched in horror, the miscreant attacked the duo and fled from the spot. Locals and police rushed Moniruddin and Golap to the Jangipara Sub-Divisional Hospital where doctors declared them dead on arrival.

The deceased were neighbours in Baneshwargram village in Raghunathgunj.

“Bodies of Moniruddin and Golap have been sent for postmortem. The police have initiated an investigation and all angles are being probed. The deceased were witnesses in a murder case,” said Basab Dasgupta, Superintendent of Police, Murshidabad.
