The civic body has made it mandatory for certain establishments to obtain a No Objection certificate (NOC) from the fire department, before they conduct trade or other operations from their premises.
The 18 such establishments include nursery houses, clinics, schools, petrol pumps, liquor factories, plastic manufacturing units, cinema halls, sweet meat shops, shopping malls, clothing shops, restaurants and bars.
Director of fire and emergency services, Gopal Bhattacharya, said: “These premises will require a clearance from our department before applying for a trade licence or NOC from the KMC.” The fire department has welcomed the move by the KMC, which would help in preventing fire accidents, Bhattacharya added. Earlier, no such clearance was needed to get a licence from the KMC.
