Kolkata, June 23 In a climbdown from its earlier stand, the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) today decided to send a four-member team to meet Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on June 27.

“We have received an invitation from the chief minister and we are going to repeat our demand of a separate state of Gorkhaland,” said GJM president Bimal Gurung. The GJM team that will meet the chief minister will comprise four members — Anmol Prasad, Amar Lama, Raju Pradhan and Girish Rai.

Earlier, the GJM had said that it would not have any talks with the state government. The Morcha is also expected to send a team to Delhi to discuss the issue of a separate state with the Centre. In Darjeeling, meanwhile, people were seen queuing up before provision stores and vegetable shops to replenish their stocks after the indefinite strike called by the GJM was relaxed for 72 hours. The strike will resume from 6 am on June 25.
