Mumbai, June 25 Victims’ family members arrested for vandalising hospital

A day after two sisters alleged molestation at Masina Hospital in Byculla, the police on Wednesday arrested a doctor and a ward boy on the charges of outraging a woman’s modesty.

According to the Byculla police, the sisters, aged 22 and 16, were admitted to the hospital on June 22 after they had suffered burn injuries while bursting crackers near their residence at Dongri.

“The two girls had suffered burn injuries on their hands, knees and parts of forehead after a spark from a fire cracker landed in the plastic bag near them containing fire crackers. After the accident, both the sisters were admitted to the hospital for treatment,” said a police official of the Byculla police station.

According to the complaint filed by one of the sisters, while both of them were being taken for their dressing on Tuesday, Ramesh Chavan (40), a ward boy, allegedly molested the 22-year-old girl while the other accused, Balu Sahare (35), a doctor, molested the other sister while changing her dressing.

“Following the complaint late on Tuesday night, we arrested Chavan and Bhanu on Wednesday morning and charged them with outraging the modesty of a woman. However, on Tuesday night at around 11, victim’s family members and relatives gathered at the hospital and vandalized it, causing damage to the property. On the basis of a complaint filed by the hospital authorities, we also arrested 7 members of the victim’s family on charges of rioting,” said Senior Police Inspector Tukaram Godge of the Byculla police station.
