Kolkata, June 26 With an aim to share its knowledge base, the Jadavpur University has compiled course contents and research in several postgraduate courses on compact discs to be sent to select engineering colleges across the state.

This new method of teaching, called the Information Communication Technology (ICT), is becoming a preferred tool of instruction, which virtually does away with the more formal method of teaching. Armed with the ICT tools, students only need a computer to learn.

The ICT tool will be incorporated in courses like ME in IT (courseware engineering), PG Diploma in Risk Management and Financial Engineering and PG Diploma in Multimedia and Web Technology.

The School of Education Technology and the School of Multimedia Technology of the university has developed the content of the tools.

According to P N Ghosh, Jadavpur University Vice-Chancellor, a similar course material for MA in Environment and Development has also been developed, which will be used by the university itself.

The decision to start distance centres in the colleges was taken in the Executive Council meeting on June 25. The university in its Executive Council meeting on June 25 chose five colleges — Techno India College of Technology, Jalpaiguri Engineering College, St Thomas College of Engineering, Siliguri Institute of Technology and Haldia Institute of Technology — which will benefit from the developed tools.
