As they shared ideas on Internet, they found out that all of them loved poetry. Soon they christened their group as the Kobita Community. Some of them would post their poems online, while others would upload reviews and comments. “Last year, we compiled the 50-odd poems and published a poetry collection,” said Abin Chatterjee, coordinator of the community. This year the group did something different.
“We wanted to work for the poor. We decided to bring out a CD of our poetry and sell it,” he added. Then, the community members contacted the Ramkrishna Mission authorities. “We wanted to donate the money earned from the sales to a school for the visually-challenged students run by the mission. Besides, we also wanted to introduce these students to the melody of poems. There are very few poetry books in brail, we knew the students would enjoy the poems in CDs,” said Souvik Saha, one of the community members.
“There are 46 poems recited by our members and a song composed by them in the CD. We brought out 200 CDs, of which 100 were sold. We are thinking to bring out more copies. We hope to collect nearly Rs 20,000 for the school,” added Chatterjee.
The Ramkrishna Mission School principal, Subimol Pattanayak said, “We are pleased at their endeavour. Their efforts must be appreciated.”
